Heroes
“The hero may be a lonely outsider, perhaps in revolt against society even, but no hero is imaginable without some sort of following, without a community which venerates or acknowledges him or her at least posthumously. The story of his or her life needs to be told and retold; otherwise there are no heroes, and who should tell the story if not some kind of community?” - Ronald G. Asch
Published by Printed Matter, Inc. and 8-Ball Community, Inc. for the New York Art Book Fair 2017, Heroes collects work around the titular theme by artists of the LAND Studio and Gallery.
LAND is a unique nonprofit day habilitation program that teaches life skills through the modality of art, functioning as both a studio and gallery for 16 adult artists with developmental disabilities. At LAND, artists develop their skills in a nurturing environment, while their work is marketed to the community in a vibrant and inclusive manner.
