In October 2008, Tokyo-based photographer Keith Ng traveled to the Fukui prefecture city of Obama to document its “Obama for Obama” campaign in the lead-up to the American presidential election. This limited edition artist’s book chronicles Ng’s travels and presents a portrait of a place that not only embodies the cultural complexity of small-town Japan but that, like many small towns in the United States, came to identify with a man who had become a universal symbol of hope and change.
