In his new artists’ book A–Z Matthias Herrmann stages paraphernalia of classic professional photography – color gels, photo-paper and film boxes, analog film cassettes, lenses etc – with seductive studio light. The means of analog Picture Making have their last call as protagonists – they are relicts of times passed. With a hint of irony, sentimentality and a certain amount of sexiness, these items that defined the medium of photography become subjects in this media reflexive fin de partie. The images are accompanied by diaristic writings by the artist, reflecting on photography, the passing of time, aging, and the joy of living, etc…
