Since 2006, Sophy Naess and Carmelle Safdie have mined local thrift stores and the internet in order to picture themselves participating in a variety of dislocated seasonal scenarios they anticipate in the coming year. This is the stuff of First Rate Second Hand, an annual photocollage calendar featuring 12 months’ worth of satire from the artists.

During this year’s NY Art Book Fair, Printed Matter hosts a signing with Naess and Safdie to mark the 10th year in print and the launch of the 2016 issue. This year’s calendar include a trip to Cuba, an important TED talk, election coverage, egg freezing, harnessing of wind energy, and seven more months of adventure.

The signing will take place at the Printed Matter booth (ground level)) Saturday, 4PM, at MoMA PS1. Naess and Safdie will also present a talk as part of The Classroom titled Future Forecasting: 2016 according to First Rate Second Hand and Special Guests in which they will discuss their forecasting methodologies as well as the major events and trends we might expect to see in the coming year(s).
