We’re hosting a celebratory event for the good people at Showpaper to mark their upcoming BROOKLYN SHELF LIFE project at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. We recently bolted down our very own Showpaper distribution box outside the store, created by Leon Reid IV, and we’re pretty pumped on that too. Join us for a launch with a performance by Jeremy Smoking (Justin Frye of PC Worship, Gary War) this Thursday, June 7th, 6-8 PM.

As an extension of Showpaper’s interest in exploring the print medium, their upcoming BAM installation will feature five specifically crafted sculptural news boxes by paired artists, placed near BAM on Lafayette Avenue and Ashland Place in Brooklyn, NY. Curated by Andrew H. Shirley, the artists Adam Void & Gaia, Cassius Fouler & Faust, Leon Reid IV & Noah Sparkes, Ryan C. Doyle & Swoon, and UFO 907 & William Thomas Porter created beautiful sculpture-type news boxes. They will contain a periodically rotating series of independently printed work, curated by Jesse Hlebo of SWILL CHILDREN along with SHOWPAPER and us, PRINTED MATTER.

Once launched, these boxes will house new work by 48 different publishers and artists, along with SHOWPAPER, over the span of the year. Rotating every month, the launch round will include Sumi Ink Club, W/—, Felicia Atkinson, Asher Penn.

Showpaper is a free bi-weekly print-only publication which lists and promotes every all-ages & DIY show in the NYC / tri-state area. Each issue also features a full color piece of art by a contemporary artist.
