Jan Groth: Drawings 1967-2017 is a comprehensive presentation of Norwegian artist Jan Groth’s drawings created between 1967 - 2017, selected and discussed by Norwegian art historian Karin Hellandsjø. This book reproduces over 200 drawings from the last 50 years of Groth’s career.
Speaking on Groth’s artistry, Hellandsjø states: “The final drawing, the perfect expression, does not exist, but it is also not it, but the process itself and the fruits of the one that is of importance and which this book gives us an insight into. Groth developed early a vocabulary of forms and formations that continually emerge in new variations in the drawings and which bind this unique artistry together in a single network of lines and lines.”
Jan Groth is one of Norway’s most important artists. For the first time, Groth’s drawings stand out in their full width in a comprehensive presentation. For five decades, Groth has explored the line as an artistic instrument. With drawing as a starting point, she has pursued the artistic potential of mediums such as sculpture and textiles. Her drawings, however, remain central to an understanding of Groth’s impressive artistry.
