A Square on a Sphere is an artist book of the work of Norwegian artist Marte Johnslien published by Uten Tittel in 2018. This artist book is a comprehensive look into Johnslien’s process, including texts, sketches, and models as well as photographs of finished work. Johnslien explores the ways in which broad categories, such as science, religion, politics and history that can reorient us in the world. Her extensive work encompasses sculpture, painting, ceramics to installations, architecture and photography. The book is published in collaboration with an exhibition titled A Square on a Sphere which was shown at the Lillehammer Art Museum. The exhibition was about human connection to materials, history and nature. This hardcover artist book includes texts by Ingrid Halland and Cecilie Skeide.
Marte Johnslien is a Norwegian artist from Lillehammer. She is a PhD Candidate in Art Research at the Oslo National Academy of the arts. The exhibition and this publication are part of her doctoral work. Johnslien works across painting, sculpture and installations. A central theme of her work is how the understanding of reality can be translated into spacial structures.
