Changements is a collection of black and white photographs that chart the passage of time in the lives of Michals, his family, and friends. The book is broken into three parts, the first featuring Roger Schoening Jr. (of the book's cover), born in 1966 and photographed by Michals every year until he reaches age ten. Joined by his new baby sister at age three, Roger becomes more serious every year and ends the series wearing glasses and standing on the family's Greenwich Village porch. The second part of the book takes a less gradual approach, with each subject represented by only two photographs. The third depicts Michals himself, beginning with his own baby pictures and ending with a staged series of photographs in which he imagines his eventual decrepitude and death. All text is by the artist in French.
