We’re launching the newest publication from “TBW Books”:http://www.tbwbooks.com/, dead men don’t look like me, by artist Paul Schiek. Join us for a reception and signing with Schiek and critic Vince Aletti, who contributed the introduction to the book.

The book features 20 duotone plates of men re-photographed from 1950s-era mug shots found by the artist’s friend Mike Brodie in an abandoned Georgia prison. Brodie gifted the mug shots to Schiek, who then edited the original cache of hundreds down to a select few, cropped the images to remove all official documentary references while leaving stains, staple marks, tears and other signs of age, and enlarged the prints on highly reflective chromogenic paper to imbue them with personal and cultural meaning beyond their original purpose. The book is accompanied by an introduction by acclaimed critic Vince Aletti.

The book is paperback, 56 pages, measures 7 x 9 inches, and retails for $30.00. It can be purchased through the Printed Matter website “here”:catalog/31345. We will also have limited edition screenprints for sale, featuring the signatures of the men included in the book. Screenprints measure 18 x 22 inches, were published in an edition of 100, and retail for $100.00. They can be purchased “here”:catalog/31414.
