Printed Matter hosts a launch of a new publication from David Schmidlapp, pOstIn prAyErs frOm yEArs pAst, a prayer book of photos from an analog age printed in our brave new digital world. Schmidlapp, an artist / photographer / filmmaker based in lower Manhattan for the past 5 decades, is also the publisher of the renowned street /subway art zine, IGTimes. The launch features an installation of archival material from Schmidlapp in PM’s glass cases, and an (encore) performance by violinist Walter Steding.

Schmidlapp will present a selection of his past published works, including 1979, a 2002 Xerox booklet reprint of the 1979 photo story / projection / performance ”FASGAS”; Ali Warhol, a 2002 Xerox booklet made in collaboration with Victor Bockris addressing the legendary meeting in 1977 between Andy Warhol and Muhammad Ali; Schmidlapp’s Chronicles, the 1990 offset, accordion-fold booklet of the artist “image-life” in the 80’s; and Lovenots, the 1977 offset booklet of a conceptual love photo sequence.
