Homemade by Quinn Tivey - Book Launch and Install
HOMEMADE by artist Quinn Tivey portrays a collection of twenty-four homemade 8mm pornographic movies, thought to have been created in Southern California, in the late 1960s. The film reels for each movie are encapsulated in an envelope or series of envelopes and accompanied by a brief textual description, both of which are original to the collection.
The collection of movies are presented as a series of photographs of the envelopes that contain them, coupled with scans of their original descriptions.
The actual footage is withheld, using the text and minimal presentation to spark viewers’ imaginations. While representational of pornographic ideas, the work withholds pornographic realities, in exchange for pornographic fantasies.
To coincide with the publication launch, Tivey will install a series of laser cut acrylic facsimiles, part sculpture part print. The wall-mounted envelops are perfectly flat though appear dimensional. Twenty-five different ‘films’ are available for purchase with, ranging from 1-5 envelops each. A soft cover edition is available, 56 Pages, 8.75 x 6.75 in, published in an edition of 350 copies.
A hardcover edition is also available with enlarged strip of 8mm film, signed, published in an edition of 50 copies.
