Join artist Drake Reed for a program and workshop titled Designing Symbols of Resistance, co-presented with Endless Editions.
We are seeing surveillance technology evolve faster than ever, and we need creative ways to investigate how surveillance impacts our daily lives. In this workshop, we will explore the history of black resistance and methods of counter-mapping surveillance constructs. Throughout history, resistance movements have always had to fight against formations of surveillance. Together we will create a mapping system to explore how personal experience, language, and artistic expressions can reimagine safety. This workshop is an interactive experiment and conversation with American Artist, where we will use art and writing to share our collective knowledge about how we fight back against surveillance technology.
Following Drake Reed & American Artist’s conversation, participants will divide into small groups for a workshop portion and short group discussion. Afterwards, guests are invited for an outdoor walking activity in the Chelsea neighborhood, led by Reed. The program is expected to take about two hours total.
