Born in Argentina, based in New York, landscape architect Diana Balmori has published accounts of her outstanding work in every format, from coffee-table book to monograph to short film. But a chance meeting two years ago led to a collaboration with Portland, OR-based publisher, Publication Studio, on a unique document of her working process, a hand-sized volume called Notebooks. The design, production, and circulation of this unusually intimate book have all been shaped by Publication Studio’s one-at-a-time artisinal production of their books, which are made “on demand” in a small Portland, OR, storefront. Tonight at Printed Matter, Balmori discusses her work and Notebooks with Publication Studio co-founder Matthew Stadler.
