Lee's dark, smoky photographs have just enough contrast for the viewer to get a sense of the cityscape – as if they are covered in a fine layer of charcoal. The murky images are of lives lived out in public. We examine society from the street: bustling crowds, traffic, laundry drying on balconies, and other urban scenes. Lee chronicles Mexico City as it normally behaves.
