‘Elska Reykjavík’ is our sort of flagship edition, our home issue, set in the country that inspired the Elska name (the word ‘elska’ means ‘love’ in Icelandic). This is a place that is regarded as one of the top destinations for LGBTQ travellers, in no small part due to a welcoming society, where everyone has a place and where being different is actually celebrated. It is also an incredibly beautiful country, renowned for its other-worldly landscapes, so we couldn’t resist stretching the boundaries of our usual city theme to do some shoots out in the country, e.g. the black sand beach at Vík, Seljavallalaug pool, and the ‘whale fjord’.
Inside the issue you’ll meet thirteen local boys, photographed intimately at home, in the charming city, and in the great outdoors. Each is then accompanied by a personal story to help you get to know them better. Like previous issues, the Reykjavík men are a diverse lot - though all live in Iceland, we meet expats from France, Belgium, Turkey and Brazil… so it’s not all blonds and gingers here (though we have those too)! Then, in our Elska Dehors feature, we are proud to also present work by two photo-artists from beyond Iceland: in ‘Elska Reykjavík’ you’ll find a series from Rio de Janeiro by Lauro Justino; and in our companion zine ‘Elska Ekstra Reykjavík’ (available separately or as part of the “bundle”) you’ll find a set from Paris by Pedro Ivan Serralva.
Originally our third release, ‘Elska Reykjavík’ went on to become our biggest seller until it eventually went out of print. We’ve now reissued it in our bigger modern format, and we completely refreshed it by going into our Reykjavík photo archives and remaking the issue from scratch. This means over 50% previously unpublished images, new stories, and a couple guys who had not been published in the original release.“ - Elska
