This loose leaf exhibition catalogue was published on the occasion of Gordon Matta-Clark’s invitation to create a work in honor of the four hundredth anniversary of Baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens in Antwerp. Sponsored by the Internationaal Cultureel Centrum, Matta-Clark performed Office Baroque, an architectural intervention consisting of a series of semi-circular cuts in the floors and roof of a five-story building slated for demolition. The project was part of his ongoing series of “building cuts” (1972–78), in which Matta-Clark created large, radical site-specific sculptures out of existing structures.
This was the artist’s second-to-last architectural project before his death in 1977.
