This catalogue was published in conjunction with the exhibition of paintings by Jerry Kearns held in the Spring of 1987 at Kent Fine Art in New York. Illustrated in rich color and black-and-white, the paintings emulate the classic cartoons from America’s EC Comics and England’s I.P.C. Magazine Ltd, setting them against a backdrop of photographs from New York daily newspapers that show scenes of human strife next to images of American monuments.
Lucy Lippard’s accompanying text explores the dangerous impact of American imperialism by contrasting symbols of Americana with the country’s use of chemical warfare in Vietnam and violent interventions in Central America, among other historic atrocities. The catalogue Includes a list of works in the exhibition, selected biography, and exhibition history.
