Eight color screen print, acrylic, Flashe and screen printing inks on Stonehenge paper.
[2014 LAABF Fundraising Edition]
“Untitled” is an eight-color screen print made with acrylic, Flashe, and screen printing inks on Stonehenge paper. It was created as a Fundraising Editions on the occasion of 2014 LA Book Fair. In this storm of rain and lemons Owens posi- tions her forms both within and escaping the rectangular frame placed at the work’s center, creating a continuous down- ward slant that places one particular citrus in the space of the zero in the +1 (808) number printed across the bottom of the work.
Known for her innovative approach to painting, artist Laura Owens (b. 1970 in Euclid, Ohio) creates figurative and ab- stract works that draw upon influences ranging from Chinese and Japanese landscapes to typography and wallpaper. For Owens, the ways in which her art is seen and consumed remains a continuous variable. She has exhibited work nationally and internationally at Kunstmuseum Bonn, Germany, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., and multiple others. In 2003, Owens became the youngest artist ever awarded a survey at MOCA Los Angeles.
