An accompaniment to the eponymous exhibition at the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design, Published by Lugemik, Printed Matter from 2010-2019 is a survey of the output of the independent publishing house Lugemik and a reflection on the technical and theoretical concerns in the field of arts publishing in Estonia more generally.
The prolific publishing practice of Lugemik includes editions on contemporary art, design, architecture, experimental theatre, and more. In addition to a complete index of Lugemik publications and 32 photographic reproductions of artworks, this volume includes a selection of published texts that speak to the historical, political, and cultural Estonian context.
Edited by founders Indrek Sirkel and Anu Vahtra with a foreword by curator Kai Lobjakas, this catalog features contributions by the design critic and curator Kristina Ketola Bore (NO); researcher and PhD student in the history of art at Yale University, Mia Kang (US); artist, librarian and publisher Lieven Lahaye (BE); and initiators of Knock! Knock! Books, Else Lagerspetz & Loore Sundja (EE).
