The Land—subtitled “An occasional magazine about land rights”—is written by and for people who believe that the roots of justice, freedom, social security and democracy lie not so much in access to money, or to the ballot box, as in access to land and its resources.
Published biannually, each issue of The Land takes a theme. Issue No. 15’s is Agriculture, with a specific focus on livestock: the swill debate in pig-keeping, the future of megadairies and gigafarms in India, and the significance of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations’ (FAO) retraction of the calculation that eighteen percent of the world’s man-made greenhouse emissions are caused by livestock, allowing for “backyard” farming to be looked upon more favorably.
This issue features front and back cover artwork by John Petts and Thomas Agran, respectively.
