Sleepwalking is a risograph printed photobook by Brazilian artist Caco Neves. This book, printed in two colors on heavyweight paper, uses found imagery from television programs in order to create collage compositions which comment on American war crimes. By juxtaposing American entertainment and American violence, both taken from American television, Neves points to the ignorance and sheepishness of the American public. In Sleepwalking, Neves is able to dig into the implications of media distraction by recontextualizing the inundation of images, found in plain sight.
Sleepwalking was published by Republica Books and Meli-Melo Press in 2017. The artist book also includes a link to a video, also made by Caco Neves, which uses the same imagery as the book. Neves is half of Auto Estúdio, a design studio based in São Paulo, Brazil. They create graphic designs, art direction and moving images for culture, business and fashion.
