Produced on occasion of the inaugural Deep Water Literary Festival (Narrowsburg, NY, June 15-17 2018), this zine is an interpretation of the 13th chapter of Homer’s The Odyssey. Approached through the lens of the Palestinian diaspora experience, and the dream of return, Nassar juxtaposes the events of chapter 13, in which Odysseus, after years and years in exile, finally returns to his homeland only to find it has changed so much that he doesn’t recognize it, with before-and-after photos of locations in Israel; “before” being before the creation of Israel in 1948, and “after” being today, with renovations and additions making the locations barely recognizable.
