Heels is a staple-bound, risograph-printed zine comprised of Jeffrey Cheung’s illustrations of nude bodies, many of which wear red heels. Cheung’s drawings are playful and stylized—limbs bend backwards, necks twist down to look toward feet, and bodies intertwine and obscure distinctions between one another. Cheung’s illustrations depict an array of body parts, body hair, and body shapes that transcend normative notions of bodies and gender. The red heels add a feeling of playfulness and style to these illustrations, and seem to comment on the potential of fashion and expression outside the constraints of normative genders.
Jeffrey Cheung is a Bay Area-based artist, and Heels was published through Unity Press. Unity Press is associated with Unity Queer Skateboarding, a collective that “is here to represent and support queer skaters.”
