León Muñoz Santini is a self-taught editorial designer and photographer based in Cuauhtémoc, Mexico. Sátan is a large-format risograph publication printed out of Gato Negro Ediciones, a press founded by Santini that regularly publishes and distributes large volumes of works internationally. Greyscale except for a bright pink interior on its front and back covers, Sátan tiles photographs of Mexican landscapes at a small scale, creating a quilt of images that repeats across each spread of pages. The effect creates a sense of uneasiness and concern, as it replaces a decipherable narrative with the sheer magnitude of minuscule landscapes. Santini’s practice as both a publishing entity and a self-publisher centers upon the exploration of Mexican subculture through a visual parlance suspended in eeriness and intrigue.
