Beli Sladoled is a collective between two Slovenian painters, Miha Perne and Leon Zuodar. Both employ effortlessly playful modes of representation, particularly within the drawings collected for this publication. Ena Ena employs signs, symbols, color fields, and the human form to produce an expansive compilation of gestural sketches.
Miha Perne is a graduate of The School of Design and Photography in Ljubljana, Slovenia. In 2005, Perne established the painting collective “Beli Sladoled” with Leon Zuodar; an English alternative being the phrase ‘White Ice’ or ‘White Ice Cream’. Perne’s painting practice depicts illusionistic dreamscapes, while Zuodar’s distorts the legibility of its imagery through a rendering similar to low-quality computer graphics. The two-person collective has issued eleven art publications, participated in numerous shows and been awarded a 2011 sabbatical to pursue their collaborative practices abroad.
The publication is encased in a bright orange booksleeve, detailed with brick motifs. The application of bright orange in this context reiterates the experimental (albeit academic), almost juvenile affect applied in each painters’ contributions.
