Referencing the style of Latin American “fotonovelas,” Simes uses a series of narrative black and white photographs to illustrate a sequence of events where hooded men dig a grave in which six people are buried alive. This brooding tale evokes the specter of political dissidents who were disappeared throughout Latin America during the repressive dictatorships of the 1960’s through the 1990’s.
