Yael Meiry’s photographs closely frame people, objects, and environments that often point to Israeli life and/or the perspective of youth in Tel Aviv. Drawing from social situations and barren domestic scenes, the images demonstrate a sensitivity to a photograph’s capability to capture the ‘genuine’ and the ‘candid’.
In their own words Meiry muses on the parallel developments of their surroundings and their personal growth: “but maybe, just maybe, when the camera and i freeze a moment, maybe things keep on chenging beneath the surface, and i grow as well.”
Yael Meiry is a genderqueer artist living and working in Tel Aviv. They combine photography and site-specific installations. Meiry’s work displays bordered Israeli landscapes and a variety of bodies, including their queer body, as a presence marking social, political and cultural disciplining.
