Matthew Higgs continues to blur the line between artist and curator with this catalogue/artist’s book documenting his 2009 restaging of Joseph Kosuth’s 1996 exhibition in which fifteen artists presented copies of their favorite books at New York’s Lannis Gallery. Higgs’ updated version, which was on display at Glenn Horowitz Bookseller in the spring of 2009, featured the favorite books of contemporary art figures Wade Guyton, T.J. Wilcox, Nick Mauss, Anne Collier, Rob Pruitt, Richard Prince, Joseph Logan, Gavin Brown, Ken Okiishi, Clarissa Dalrymple, Kelley Walker, Jonathan Horowitz, Elizabeth Peyton, and Pati Hertling. This book presents each artist’s choice as a black and white photograph of the book’s cover, which acts as a unique and minimal self-portrait.
