Lament of the Sugar Bush Man
Lament of the Sugar Bush Man
Rhonda Abrams
Toronto, Canada : Art Metropole. 1987

A maple sugar farmer mourns the loss of his farm to the effects of acid rain. "Sulfur dioxide and acid rain have had a severely detrimental effect on the forest ecosystem and are the chief causes of the decline of the sugar maple stands. In this videotape, a maple sugar farmer sings a lament about the tloss of his family farm. For him, the sugar bush represented not only a livelihood, but a way of life. He blames industry, government, and himself for its destruction and realized that the death of his maples is the beginning of the death of much more"--jacket.

Michel Auder
New York, NY : Michel Auder. 1972

I want to slip away as much as it is possible from the memory of my daily life in New York, I've had it…I go to Morocco…I smoke dope…I climb the mountains, the hills, I sink into the valleys, walk along the oceans, on the deserts...I smoke more dope...I am forgotten, free and peaceful as if I had no problems. I have problems! The dope, the sand and the water protect me from reality. No! But they help...People here are living a complicated life in a simple way. That to me is progress...In New York, I live a complicted life in a complicated way...I smoke more dope...(1971)--Michel Auder Productions.

Children of Clay
Children of Clay
Jon Bocksel
Brooklyn, NY : J. Bocksel. 2009

Shot on 8mm film, Jon Bocksel's short Children of Clay is a montage of travel and skateboarding footage shot in New York City, San Francisco, Chicago, Philadelphia, and while driving through the Smokey Mountains. Using grainy film, often overexposed to create cloudy dreamlike landscapes, Bocksel balances skating footage with random observations and lovely time-lapse scenes taken of airports, skies, and elevators.

Liner
Liner
Lee Boot
Baltimore, MD : Contemporary Museum. 1999

"Liner marks an evolution in Boot's work. It depicts what he calls 'TV drawings.' These drawings have been separated from their original position in his work, superimposed on lens-gathered footage. Isolating these drawings, Boot realized that he was able to come close to what he calls 'a purely visual, engaging television experience".

Buffet : All You Can Eat Video. Vol. 1
Buffet : All You Can Eat Video. Vol. 1
Buffet Productions
Houston, TX : Buffet Productions. 2009

Buffet Productions is a Houston-based artist collective, whose first DVD compilation takes its hometown as its theme and features the work of 16 video and performance artists: Chelsea Beck, Susan Chen, Jonathan Durham, Galería Perdida, Jonn Herschend, Lauren Kelly, Laura Lark, Cody Ledvina, Sharad Patel, Nancy Popp, Kelly Sears, James Sham, Hilary Wilder, and Daniel Zajicek.

"Since the city of Houston is itself an endless sterno-warmed parade of variety (food, weather, culture) and a large inspiration behind this project, it seemed only natural to make it the theme of our first issue. We invited artists from Houston and beyond to submit video works that reflect the spice and texture of life in this fair city. We had a great response and are thrilled to present a diverse and delicious collection of videos ranging from stop motion animation and performance art to music video and things beyond words." --from the producers
