Join us at the Printed Matter table of the NYABF Block Party for a signing with Lucas Blalock celebrating the release of his latest title, Why must the mounted messenger be mounted?

Blalock’s publication offers an expanded meditation on the artist’s twenty-year involvement with photography. In it, Blalock charts the development of his photographic ideas as they run alongside a tangled web of accidents, influence, romance, anxiety, and work. Why must the mounted messenger be mounted? is a book about coming of age with a preoccupation alternately in full bloom and on its last legs. The volume reproduces many of Blalock’s own photographs alongside artworks by peers and influences.

Lucas Blalock is a Brooklyn-based photographer and writer whose work has explored humor, falseness, and evident mechanics in photography. Recent solo exhibitions include Potemkin Village, Galerie Eva Presenhuber, Zurich, Florida, 1989, at Galerie Eva Presenhuber, New York; Insoluble Pancakes, Galerie Rodolphe Janssen, Brussels; and An Enormous Oar, Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. Blalock is an Assistant Professor of Art at Bard College.

The NYABF Block Party will take place on 22nd St, between 10th and 11th Ave, right outside the New York Art Book Fair at 548 W. 22nd St.
